Sound Therapy

What is Sound Therapy?

Sound has been utilised over the centuries by many ancient  - and not so ancient - cultures as a tool for healing. Be it a set of tuning forks, or Tibetan singing bowls or a shamanic drum - sound is a powerful medium that allows the body to relax and helps to bring about healing on many levels.

Instruments usually used during a sound healing session include Tuning  Forks, Tibetan Singing Bowls, Crystal Bowls as well as Shamanic Drums and other percussion tools. They can be used individually or in conjunction with each other. There is no limit to the variations that can occur.

Why do people get Sound Therapy?

People use Sound Therapy the way they use other therapies -  to relax and strengthen their wellbeing; reduce pain, anxiety, and fatigue; help manage symptoms; reduce side effects of medications; and support recovery after injuries or surgery.

Sound Therapy is a good integrative therapy to try because people generally start feeling relaxed very quickly. As anxiety and pain lessen, and people feel hopeful about regaining their health, they feel more able to incorporate other needed health interventions or make needed lifestyle changes. Sound therapy often clears the mind, enabling patients to better evaluate the sometimes conflicting medical information being offered by various specialists, so they can make important treatment decisions with greater confidence. In this way Sound Therapy can help people become more actively involved in their own health.

What to expect during a Sound Therapy Session.

A consultation will be taken on your first visit to establish an overall picture of your general health and lifestyle. You will then be asked to get comfortable on the massage table - after removing your shoes. As Sound Therapy can be exceedingly relaxing it is advisable to have a blanket over you as your core body temperature will drop and you don't want to get too cold during the session. Each session will be slightly different but usually starting at the head and moving around the body. Touch will either be non-existent or light - and sometimes bowls can be placed on the body or tuning forks focused on specific points - all gentle though. You may experience sensations throughout the session - or - as in most cases - experience a feeling of total relaxation.
